Analysis of meteorological conditions and harm factors for growth of Gongshui white pomelo

Abstract: The effects of the weather conditions of temperature, water content, illumination, etc. on the growing development of white pomelo were analyzed based on the whether data of Xuan’en county,Hubei province, from 1981 to 2011. And meanwhile, the influence and probability of the detrimental factors affecting the quantity of production and quality of white pomelo were also analyzed. The main detrimental factors contained low temperature stress in dormancy period, low temperature and overcast and rainy, high temperature damage, strong wind in flowering period, drought in fruit swelling period, etc. The results demonstrate that the high heat amount and the long frost-free development season of Xuen’en county with low-relief terrain characteristic can sufficiently satisfy the temperature and heat requirements of Gongshui white pomelo; The sufficient natural precipitation and moist air can totally satisfy the water content requirement of normal growing development of white pomelo, the illumination requirement of which can also be satisfied. The unfrequent and low intensive frozen injury favors the normal dormancy of while pomelo in most years. Low temperature stress in dormancy, low temperature and overcast and rainy in flowering period, high temperature damage and strong wind are the main detrimental factors affecting the quantity production of white pomelo, while drought in fruit swelling period is the main detrimental factor affecting the quality of white pomelo. The detrimental influences on the growing development of white pomelo from low temperature stress, low temperature and overcast and rainy, high temperature damage, strong wind, drought are of low and middle levels, and only for the quantity production and quality of white pomelo of the current year.
