Abstract: Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV) is a single stranded positive-sense RNA virus that couldcsused reproductive disorders of sows and serious respiratory diseases in piglets. PRRSV had led to a great shock and a huge economic loss to the global swine industry. Severe systemic inflammation, interstitial pneumonia and fever were induced by PRRSV in piglets, indicating that the inflammatory response played an important role in the pathogenic mechanism of PRRSV infection. Cells infected by PRRSV would produce excessive reactive oxygen species, which caused pathogenic oxidative damage in the inflamed tissue, demonstrating that oxidative stress response was also crucial in the pathogenic mechanism of PRRSV infection. In order to further explore the pathogenic mechanism of PRRSV infection and to prevent and control PRRSV infection, this paper reviewed the molecular mechanism of inflammation and oxidative stress induced by PRRSV.

Key words: porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), inflammation, inflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress, reactive oxygen species (ROS)
