Abstract: Melon(Cucumis melo L.) stigma from WI998,7223G,BC1,DX3-5, MS5 (fertility line) and MS5 (sterile line) were used as research materials to investigate the sugar content, soluble protein, amino acid and total phenol of stigma in different varieties. The results showed that there were differences in physiological and biochemical indexes of different melon varieties. The physiological and biochemical indexes of the same melon varieties in different periods were significant different. The order of soluble protein content of WI998、DX3-5、BC1 and MS5(sterile line) was squaring period>initial flowering stage>flowering stage, which showed a decreasing trend and significant differences in each period. The order of soluble sugar content of MS5 (sterile line) and MS5 (fertility line) was flowering stage>initial flowering stage>squaring period, which showed a increasing trend and significant differences in each period. The order of amino acid content of WI998, DX3-5, MS5 (sterile line) and MS5 (fertility line) was flowering stage>initial flowering stage>squaring period, which showed a increasing trend and significant differences in each period. The changes of total phenol content in each variety were different in three periods. The contents of soluble protein, soluble sugar, amino acid and total phenol in different varieties had effects on fruit setting rate. The variation trend of different physiological indexes and the fruit setting rate of the six varieties during the flowering period with the flower buds were significantly correlated.
