Effects of combined application of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer at different application rates and microbial inoculants on yield, quality and soil physicochemical properties of scallion

Abstract: Scallions were used as test materials in a randomized block experiment. Treatments included foliar sprays of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer applied at different frequencies, microbial inoculants alone, and the combined application of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer and microbial inoculants, to explore their effects on the growth, yield and quality of scallion. The results showed that plant growth, yield and quality were markedly improved under two applications of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer (HF2) compared with conventional fertilization and one application of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer (HF1), whereas no significant differences were found between HF2 and three applications of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer (HF3). Compared with a single application of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer, combined application of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer and microbial inoculants significantly improved growth traits, yield, quality of scallion and soil nutrient contents. Compared with one application of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer combined with microbial inoculant (BF1), two applications of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer combined with microbial inoculant (BF2) significantly improved plant height, stem diameter, tiller number, leaf number per plant and aboveground biomass of scallion. The yield increased by 3.80 t/hm2, net income rose by 15 093 yuan/hm2, and the input-output ratio increased by 1.21. Crude fibre and vitamin C contents were significantly elevated by 2.33 mg/kg and 14.20 mg/kg, respectively. The contents of alkaline-hydrolyzable nitrogen, available phosphorus and available potassium in soil increased by 6.23%, 5.96% and 2.95%, respectively. No significant differences were observed in all measured indicators between three applications of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer combined with microbial inoculant (BF3) and BF2 treatment. Consequently, the treatment of microbial inoculant plus two applications of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer achieved the optimal effect on scallion.
