Abstract: To determine the appropriate application rate of tobacco straw organic fertilizer in continuous cropping and non-continuous cropping tobacco fields and to systematically evaluate its comprehensive effects on soil properties, tobacco growth and tobacco leaf quality, a field randomized block experiment was conducted in tobacco-growing areas of Luoyang, Henan Province, using a five-year continuous cropping plot and a tobacco-wheat rotation (non-continuous cropping) plot, with the application of 450 kg/hm2 chemical compound fertilizer alone as the control, and with three organic fertilizer application rates of 3 000, 6 000 and 9 000 kg/hm2, each combined with 450 kg/hm2 chemical compound fertilizer. Based on the measured data of soil physical and chemical properties, microbial community indicators, and tobacco yield and quality, and combined with the comprehensive loading scores of different treatments obtained by principal component analysis, the comprehensive evaluation results showed that under non-continuous cropping conditions, the 3 000 kg/hm2 treatment had the best overall improvement effect on soil physical and chemical properties, microbial communities, and tobacco yield and quality; under continuous cropping conditions, the 9 000 kg/hm2 treatment showed the best overall effect, but the 6 000 kg/hm2 treatment was the most prominent among all continuous cropping treatments in output value and yield.
