Abstract: In eukaryotic cells, many small non-coding RNAs combind with Argonaute protein to form the RNA-induced silencing complex, the Argonaute-sRNA can regulate gene expression by recognizing complementary RNA targets, which is called RNA interference. Argonaute-sRNA complexcan play interfering roles via multiply mechanisms in plants, and then participate in key biological processes such as pathogen defense and developmental regulation. Here, we review the classification and structural characteristics of Argonaute protein, as well as mechanisms of RNA interference and biological functions on Argonaute in plants.
