Abstract: Based on the remote sensing data processing cloud platform Google Earth Engine(GEE), combined with normalized differential water body index(NDWI) and JavaScript programming, the rapid identification of large and medium-sized lakes was carried out in Hubei province from 1990 to 2019. Based on this, shoreland extraction, morphological index calculation and driving mechanism analysis of lake evolution were carried out. The results showed that the lake area decreased by 361.64 km2 in 1990—2019, with a trend of decreasing first, then increasing and then decreasing. Farmland and pond were the main types of land transferred into and out of lakes. The length of the shoreline fluctuates with a total decrease of 2 406.77 km, and the mean value of the shoreline development coefficient and fractal dimension did not change significantly. The lakes with similar shoreline development coefficient had similar shoreline surrounding environment.
