Abstract: To analysis the cause of death in peacock, clinical observation, microscopy observation, bacterial isolation and identificationand PCR amplification were used. The result showed that the lesions were mainly in the liver and cecum. The surface of liver had yellow and white spots of necrosis. The cecum was enlargement and the cecum mucosa and submucosa was congestion, bleeding and ulceration. Thus, this case was initially suspected to be histomoniasis. The homology of 18S rDNA fragment with Histomonas meleagridis was 97.4%~100.0%. A Salmonella strain was isolated from the liver, which was only sensitive to enrofloxacin, insensitive to 18 drugs and medium sensitive to 8 drugs. It was concluded that causing the death of peacocks were the mixed infection of Histomonas meleagridis and Salmonella.

Key words: Peacock, Histomonas meleagridis, Salmonella, 18S rDNA
