Abstract: Based on the dominant function of land use, the spatial classification and distribution of three types of land space in Makit County, Xinjiang, were analyzed. The dynamic characteristics of the three types of land space in Makit County were analyzed from the spatio-temporal scale by single dynamic attitude index, Lorentz curve, Gini coefficient and landscape pattern index. The results showed that the agricultural space occupied the largest proportion of the county's land space, the area was increasing year by year, and the distribution was absolutely uniform. The landscape patch type was highly compact, the diversity was rich and the dominance was prominent. From 2009 to 2019, the urban space area increased by 3 times. With Maigaiti Town as the central urban area, it gathered and distributed, and each township was scattered. Gini coefficient decreased, and the centralized expansion of urban space promoted the distribution pattern to be balanced. The ecological space was transformed into urban space and agricultural space, and the area decreased year by year, while the landscape continuity and dominance decreased with the patch area decreased.

Key words: three types of land space, spatial dynamic change, landscape pattern, arid area in northwest China, Makit County
