Abstract: The climatological characteristics of the continuous precipitation events in Jingmen city, as well as their impacts on agriculture, using daily precipitation data since the founding of Jingmen National Meteorological Observatory from 1958 to 2017, facilitated by linear trend estimations, frequency analyses and severity analyses. The results show that the frequency of the continuous rain in Jingmen city is the highest in spring, followed by summer and autumn, and the lowest in winter; The frequency of continuous precipitation in Jingmen city shows a declining trend annually; The cumulative anomaly curve of the continuous rain shows a "two-fall-one-up" type of variation; The proportion of light continuous rain in Jingmen city is 61.4%, moderate continuous rain in Jingmen takes 30.2%, and severe continuous rain takes about 8.4%. The occurrence of the mild continuous rain shows an increasing trend, while moderate and severe continuous rain show a declining trend. After 2013, the occurrence of moderate and severe continuous rain shows a sign of increase; Jingmen’s continuous rain has great impacts on agriculture, especially the moderate and severe continuous rain during spring and autumn, which can easily lead to serious yield reduction and enormous financial losses.
