Abstract: Eight broom corn millet (Panicum millaceum L.) varieties were treated with no nitrogen and normal nitrogen application,in order to study the effects of low nitrogen stress on dry matter above ground, root volume, chlorophyll content (SPAD) in leaves and yield of different broom corn millet varieties. The results showed that no nitrogen stress had effects on dry matter above ground, root volume and yield of different broom corn millet varieties during growth, and the differences were obvious between treatments, and the nitrogen use efficiency of different broom corn millet was also different.Among them, the yield of Yanshu No.8 had lower tolerance to low nitrogen stress index, and higher contribution rate of nitrogen fertilizer to yield, indicating that this variety has higher dependence on nitrogen, and more sensitive to low nitrogen stress. The yield of Ningmi 14 had higher tolerance to low nitrogen stress index, and higher contribution rate of nitrogen fertilizer to yield, indicating that this variety has less dependence on nitrogen and stronger tolerance to low nitrogen.
