Abstract: To investigate the optimum combination of sowing date and planting density for a newly bred wheat variety Xiangmai D51, a field experiment with split plot design was conducted at Xiangyang Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Hubei province during 2016-2017 growing season with Xiangmai D51 as material. Results showed that the spike number per hm2 had no significant difference under different sowing date treatment, the number of grains per spike and the average yield were significantly increased, and the 1000-grain weight was decreased significantly with the delay of sowing date; under different planting density, no significant difference was found in the spike number per hm2, 1000-grain weight and the average yield. The number of grains per spike was significantly decreased by increasing planting density. The average yield had significant interaction effect between sowing date and planting density, the best combination of sowing date and planting density was November 4th and 315×104/hm2.
