Abstract: To clarify the wind energy resource endowment and development potential of the Pan-Gonghe Basin, based on the mesoscale model (WRF) and the dynamic diagnostic model (CALMET), combined with the observation data from 10 meteorological stations in the Pan-Gonghe Basin from 1961 to 2021, a numerical simulation of wind energy resources was carried out, the spatiotemporal variation characteristics of mean wind speed and wind power density at heights of 10 m and 100 m were analyzed, and the complementary utilization potential of wind and solar energy resources was explored. The results showed that from 1961 to 2021, the mean wind speeds at heights of 10 m and 100 m in the Pan-Gonghe Basin both exhibited a distribution trend of being higher in the northwest and lower in the southeast. At the height of 10 m, Chaka and Gangcha had the highest mean wind speeds, which were 3.01 m/s and 3.15 m/s, respectively; at the height of 100 m, the high-value areas of mean wind speed were mainly located in southern Gangcha, most parts of Gonghe, eastern Wulan, and western Xinghai, with mean wind speeds reaching 6.30 to 9.56 m/s. From the perspective of seasonal variation characteristics, wind energy resources were highly concentrated in spring, and the differences in wind energy resources among summer, autumn and winter were relatively small. Wind energy and solar energy resources exhibited good complementarity. The Pan-Gonghe Basin was rich in wind energy resources and had superior development conditions, and the wind-solar complementary mode could effectively enhance the stability and cleanliness of energy supply.
