Eclosion and reproductive behavior of Archips micaceana

Abstract: To clarify the adult emergence and reproductive behaviors of Archips micaceana, laboratory rearing was conducted to observe the rhythms and behaviors of emergence, calling, mating, and oviposition. The results showed that the emergence, calling, and mating behaviors of Archips micaceana exhibited significant photoperiodic rhythms. The peak emergence of females occurred from 17:00 to 18:00, while that of males occurred from 16:00 to 17:00; the overall emergence peak was from 17:00 to 18:00, with females emerging approximately one day earlier than males. The calling peak occurred within one hour after the onset of the photophase, with an average calling duration of 252.23 minutes. The pre-mating period for both sexes was two days. The mating peak occurred within 1-3 hours after the onset of the photophase, with an average mating duration of 111.97 minutes. Each female mated an average of 2.37 times during its lifetime, whereas each male mated an average of 3.80 times. Females began oviposition on the night after mating, with the oviposition peak occurring one hour after the onset of the scotophase, and the average fecundity per female was 502.33 eggs.
