Breeding and application of Yi110S, a high-quality indica rice photo-thermo-sensitive genic male sterile line

Abstract: The breeding process, characteristic traits and hybrid application performance of Yi110S, a high-quality indica rice photo-thermo-sensitive genic male sterile (TGMS) line, were systematically elaborated. Yi110S was bred by Huanggang Academy of Agricultural Sciences through crossing the self-bred sterile line 46S as the female parent with the high-quality restorer line GR347. In the F2 generation, sterile plants were selected and backcrossed with GR347. Following the breeding strategy of selecting fertile plants with superior grain quality in early generations and screening for stable sterile plants in advanced generations, Yi110S was bred through systematic multi-generation selection over years. This TGMS line exhibited moderate plant architecture, uniform panicle distribution, stable fertility conversion temperature, favorable flowering habit, strong combining ability and excellent grain quality. It was certified by the Hubei Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 2025. The hybrid combination Yiliangyou 1046, derived from Yi110S, demonstrated suitable growth duration, high yield potential, superior grain quality and good resistance to rice blast, and had passed the regional trials and production trials for early-maturing medium rice in Hubei Province in 2025, showing promising application prospects.
