Effects of topography on farmers' employment:An empirical analysis based on CHIP data

Abstract: Based on the location data of4821 poverty villages in Hubei province,this research studied the spatial distribution topography characteristics of poverty villages by using GIS technology.At the same time,by using the data of China's household income survey (CHIP),this research used SUR regression method to test the impact of topography on farmers' employment.The results showed that,40.16% of the poverty villages were located on the flat land with good topography conditions of cultivated land;the topography advantage was conducive to the transformation of farmers' employment;the possibility of farmers' unemployment and the number of unemployed households also decreased due to the topography advantage.
