Abstract: In order to explore the effects of planting density on agronomic traits and yield of different sweet potato varieties, the field experiment was conducted using sweet potato varieties of Longshu No.9, Xinxiang, Pushu No.32. Results showed that the variety characteristics were the key factors that determine the agronomic traits and yield of sweet potato varieties. Planting density had no significant impact on the above-ground agronomic traits of sweet potato varieties, but had a significant impact on sweet potato yield. Among them, Xinxiang had the highest yield and economic benefits at a planting density of 60 000 plants/hm2, which were 18 706.44 kg/hm2 and 16 901 yuan/hm2, respectively; Longshu No.9 had the highest yield and economic benefits at a planting density of 67 500 plants/hm2, which were 29 939.88 kg/hm2 and 9 568 yuan/hm2 respectively; Pushu No.32 has the highest yield at a planting density of 60 000 plants/hm2 which was 18 706.44 kg/hm2, but the economic benefits was negative. Therefore, the sweet potato variety Xinxiang under the bean-potato-wheat three-cropping system could have the highest yield and economic benefits at a planting density of 60 000 plants/hm2 in Jianghan plain.
