Abstract: Based on panel data from 30 provinces(municipalities and autonomous regions) in China from 2010 to 2019, the mediation effect model was used to empirically analyze the impact of digital economy on carbon emissions. The results showed that there was a significant negative correlation between the development of digital economy and carbon emission intensity. The digital economy could reduce carbon emission intensity through rationalization of industrial structure. The impact of the digital economy on carbon emission intensity was more significant in the eastern region and coastal areas, and the inhibitory effect on regions with higher carbon emission intensity was more obvious. It was proposed that the government and relevant departments should accelerate the construction of the digital economy, promote the equalization of the industrial structure, implement heterogeneity strategies, coordinate regional development, and promote synergy between economic development and environmental governance.

Key words: digital economy, carbon emissions, industrial structure, "dual control"
