Study on the best harvest time of Marsdenia tenacissima

Abstract

Abstract: The stem diameter and length of Marsdenia tenacissima at different growth stages were determined. The optimum harvest time of Marsdenia tenacissima was studied,the content of total saponins in Marsdenia tenacissima at 462 nm was determined by using vanillin perchloric acid method. The results showed the content of total saponin reached the highest at two-year-old, and then decreased slowly. The yield increased fastest at the age of 3 years, and then increased slowly. Therefore, the best harvest time of Marsdenia tenacissima was at two-and-a-half years old to three-years old when both the yield and the content of its effective constituent, saponins, had reached their highest levels.
