Abstract: Submerged liquid fermentation has been widely used for the production of of microbial pesticides. The foams are formed during the process of fermentation through the joint effects of aeration, the constituents of media and the secondary metabolites of the mciroorganisms which affect the normal fermentation of microbial pesticides. In this review,it summarized the causes and regularities of foam formation, the adverse consequences of foam and strategies of foam control in the submerged liquid fermentation of microbial pesticides,In order to provide guidance for foam control in submerged liquid fermentation of microbial pesticides.

Key words: microbial pesticide, submerged liquid fermentation, foam formation, mechanistic antifoaming, chemical antifoaming
