Abstract: Hunshandake sandland becoming one of the main sand and dust sources in Beijing and Tianjin region, and it threatened the social, economic sustainable development and ecological security around Beijing, Tianjin and north China. The natural environment, socio-economic characteristics and ecological environment of the Hunshandake sandland in 2001 and 2015 were compared, and the ecological status, climate change trends, and components of ecosystem components were analyzed to explore the causes of changes in the ecological environment in this region. The results showed that changes in temperature and precipitation in the Hunshandake sandland have less impact on the ecological environment of the area. Additionally, the number of livestock has shown a downward trend, the degree of desertification has been decreasing, and the ecological environment is improving gradually. Finally, the output of the primary industry was maintained at the same level for a long time. In recent years, although the ecological environment has improved, but still cannot be neglected the deteriorating areas. People must be increase the ecological awareness continuously, and continue to promote governance measures such as grazing prohibition and afforestation.
