Abstract: The efficacy comparison of ten essential oils on the inhibition of fungal growth and mycotoxin accumulation was carried out to provide reference for the development of green and efficient bacteriostatic agents. The essential oils were extracted by steam distillation method and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Fumigation was used to test the inhibition on Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger of essential oils. Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and ochratoxin A (OTA) were determined by ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). The results showed that, significant differences were found in the antifungal and antitoxin accumulation effects of ten essential oils. Cinnamon oil could completely inhibit the growth of A. flavus, A. niger and mycotoxins accumulation, while essential oils of Cymbopogon nardus, Dalbergia odorifera, Pogostemon cablin and Eugenia cayophyllata could inhibit the growth of the two fungi and mycotoxins. However, the antifungal effect of other essential oils was not significant. Methyl eugenol, patchouli alcohol, citral, cinnamaldehyde, trans-nerolidol and its oxides might be the components that exerted antifungal effects. Fragrance essential oils had the potential to be developed as green preservatives.
