Abstract: In order to investigate the prevalence and biological characteristics of Escherichia coli in diarrhea cases of goats in Shannan City, Xizang Autonomous Region. Bacterial isolation and culture techniques, combined with molecular biological methods, were employed to isolate and identify Escherichia coli strains from fecal samples and intestinal tissue specimens obtained from diarrheic goats in Shannan City. Additionally, the isolated strains’ virulence gene profile and antimicrobial susceptibility were systematically characterized. The results showed that colonies with the characteristics of Escherichia coli were grown in MacConkey agar medium. Further PCR identification confirmed the isolation of 2 pathogenic Escherichia coli strains. The virulence genes of the isolates were detected by PCR, and the virulence genes phoA and FimC were detected. Pathogenicity testing revealed that intraperitoneal inoculation of mice with 2×106 CFU/mL of the isolated strain resulted in 100% mortality in the infected group by day 7. The drug sensitivity testing revealed that the fecal isolated strain exhibited resistance to amoxicillin, penicillin G, sulfamethoxazole, and lincomycin, while the intestinal isolated strain exhibited resistance to six antimicrobial agents: penicillin G, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, erythromycin, sulfamethoxazole and lincomycin.
