Abstract: In order to shorten the alkaline fermentation period of excess sludge, alkaline-tolerant strains with high protease-producing activity were isolated from alkaline fermentation of excess sludge and identified by morphological. physiological, biochemical, and molecular characteristic analysis. The results showed that the two screened alkali-tolerant bacterial strains (HIT-01 and HIT-02 strains) which of high protease-producing activity were belongs to Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus sp. This study opens a new idea for further utilizing the screened dominant strains to construct microbial agents and quickly activate alkaline fermentation of sludge.
